SYNOPSIS
There is
something seemingly impractical but ultimately glamorous and breathtaking
about a glass house. Throughout the history of modern architecture,
designing a glass house has been a recurrent and challenging exercise. This
book reviews some of the most notable glass houses in recent history, such
as the Maison de Verre by Pierre Charreau in Paris, France; the Farnsworth
House by Mies van der Rohe in Plano, Illinois; the Glass House by Philip
Johnson in New Canaan, Connecticut. Glass Houses also focuses on the recent
works of contemporary architects and their visual interpretations of this
fascinating topic. Detailed drawings and narratives by the designers discuss
and analyze innovative construction systems as clever functional solutions
and showcase a myriad of styles.
